There Has to Be More Than This
In conversations with people, I hear this a lot: “There has to be more than this.” And it’s not just a passing thought. There’s a real, growing sense of emptiness out there. It’s not boredom or just a bad day—it’s something deeper.
What We Were Told
What amazes me is this— A lot of that emptiness isn’t just about what’s happened to people. It’s not only their circumstances. It’s the message they were given. They grew up hearing:
“Do whatever you want.”
“Be whatever you want.”
“Your truth is your truth.”
And it sounded like freedom.
The Promise—and the Problem
Those of us who grew up in the 60s and 70s—Generation X—we didn’t just hear that message… we built our lives on it. We were told freedom meant no boundaries. No one telling you what’s right or wrong. No one defining truth for you. And for a while, it felt freeing —like there were no limits. But here’s what we learned— When there’s no truth outside of you, there’s nothing to hold you steady inside of you. That “freedom” we were promised didn’t ground us. It left us drifting.
The Weight of being “On Your Own”
And one of the heaviest parts of that message was this: “You’re on your own.” If that’s true, then everything is on you—your worth, your identity, your value. That’s a weight nobody was meant to carry. So, people start to feel unloved, even if no one ever said it out loud. And over time, it doesn’t just feel true—they begin to believe it is true. So they try to fill the gap—with success, relationships, distractions. But none of it holds, because it never touches the real problem.
A Love That Actually Holds
Here’s the truth— True love begins with God, not people. And His love isn’t like ours.
It doesn’t shrink when you fail.
It doesn’t walk away when you struggle.
It doesn’t give up on you.
The Bible says: “This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us…” (1 John 4:10, NIV)
God didn’t wait for you to get it right. He moved first. His love isn’t based on how you’re doing—it’s based on who He is.
Easter Changes Everything
As Easter gets closer, don’t miss this— The cross isn’t just about sin. It’s about love. Real love. Sacrificial love. Unshakable love. Jesus didn’t go to the cross to make a point—He went to make a way. So you wouldn’t have to live like you’re on your own. So you’d have something solid to stand on. An anchor.
And if you’ve been feeling lost… empty… like you’re carrying all of this by yourself—
You’re not. God sees you, He knows you, and He loves you. Not a distant love. Not a fragile love. A love that holds. Maybe today is the day you stop carrying it all… and finally rest in Him.

If this hits home, don’t just move on. Talk to God—right where you are. Or come join us this Sunday at Stamford Community Church. We’d love to walk this out with you.
